Civil War history abounds in Marietta, Georgia.  In fact, there are twenty-six Civil War historical markers in Cobb County.  Two major battlefields for touring are Kennesaw Mountain and Cheatham Hill.  The beautiful Civil War monument at Cheatham Hill was erected 50 years after the Civil War in honor of Brigade Commander McCook of Illinois and his followers who were killed in battle there.

The Marietta Confederate Cemetary is the resting place to more than 3000 soldiers with every Confederate state represented.  The National Cemetary in Marietta was dedicated in 1866 to bury more than 10,000 Union soldiers who fell in General Sherman's Atlanta Campaign.
